These steps take you from a fresh install to a first registered product. Do them in this order. Every menu and button named here is in the Tasdeek app in your Shopify admin.
1. Before you start
Open Tasdeek from Apps in your Shopify admin. The Home page has a Setup checklist with four items: pick the products to serialize, add a warranty policy, print serial labels and connect Klaviyo. Each item links to the page where you do it and shows Done once it is finished.
Then enter your brand details:
- Open Settings and go to Brand.
- Enter your Brand name. It is shown in customer emails and on the product passport page.
- Enter a Support email. Customers who reply to an email about a registration or a claim reach this address.
- Click Save.
2. Choose the products to serialize
Tasdeek gives serial numbers only to the products you choose.
- Open Settings and go to Serialized products.
- Click Add products and choose the products in the Shopify product picker.
- Each product appears with the status Serialized. It uses your default serial scheme unless you choose another one under Serial scheme and click Apply.
When an order with one of these products is fulfilled, Tasdeek assigns a unit to each item. It takes a unit you created in advance for that variant first, and makes a new serial number when there is none.
Your store starts with one serial scheme, Default, which makes random serial numbers with a check character. For a prefix, or for numbers that count up, add a scheme under Settings, Serial schemes, Add scheme.
Pause stops new serial numbers for a product and Resume starts them again. Remove takes the product off the list.
3. Add a warranty policy
- Open Warranties and click Add policy.
- Enter a Name.
- Under Applies to, choose All products, Product, Collection, Product tag or Variant, then pick the product, collection or variant, or type the tag.
- Enter the Duration (days), for example 365 for one year.
- Under Starts from, choose Fulfillment date, Registration date or Purchase date.
- If you have a page with your warranty terms, enter it as the Terms URL.
- Keep Active ticked and click Save policy.
If more than one policy matches a unit, the most specific one wins: variant, then product, collection, tag, and all products last. Priority decides between two policies of the same kind; the higher number wins.
Saving a policy updates warranties straight away. Sold units that now match get a warranty, and units without claims follow the changed policy. Units with claims keep the warranty they have.
A warranty that starts from the registration date is created when the owner registers the product.
4. Create units and print labels
If you put a label on each product before it ships, create its units first. Units made in advance wait until an order for the same variant is fulfilled, and Tasdeek then assigns them to that order.
- Open Units and click Create units to make new serial numbers, or Import CSV to bring in your own.
- When the units are created, click Print labels.
- Download the PDF, print it at actual size and stick a label on each product.
The units and labels guide explains every option.
No labels on your products? Customers can also register with their order number and email on the page /apps/tasdeek/o of your store, and the registration page links to it. This is on by default. You can turn it off under Settings, Registration by order number.
5. Add the theme blocks
Tasdeek's customer pages open on your own store, inside your theme, under /apps/tasdeek. The theme blocks put forms and links to them on your store's pages:
- Register your product: a serial number field and a Register button that open the registration page, plus a link to the customer's registered products.
- Verify this product: a serial number field, an optional scratch-off code field and a Verify button that open the authenticity check.
- My products link: an app embed that adds a My products link to the customer account pages.
To add them:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store, Themes and click Customize.
- Open the page where a block should go, for example a product page. In a section, click Add block and choose Register your product or Verify this product from the app blocks.
- For the account link, open App embeds and turn on My products link.
- Click Save.
Leave a block's heading, text and button label empty to show Tasdeek's own wording in the shopper's language: English, German, French or Spanish.
The My products link works with classic customer accounts. With new customer accounts, add a menu link to /apps/tasdeek/my instead. You can also link to /apps/tasdeek, a page with links to register a product, check that it is genuine, report a problem and see my products.
If you changed the Tasdeek app proxy path in Shopify, enter the new path in each block's Storefront path setting.
6. Turn on automatic registration
This step is optional. By default, customers register their products themselves. With automatic registration, Tasdeek registers each serialized unit to the order's email as soon as the order is fulfilled.
- Open Settings and go to Automatic registration.
- Tick Register units when orders are fulfilled.
- Keep Email the customer a confirmation ticked to send the usual registration email for each unit, or untick it.
- Click Save.
Orders without an email address are skipped. Automatic registration never signs the customer up for marketing emails.
7. Test with one product
- Create a test order for one serialized product, with an email address you can read.
- Fulfill the order in Shopify.
- In Tasdeek, open Units. The unit shows the order and the status Assigned. If a warranty policy starting from the fulfillment date applies, the unit's page lists the warranty.
- Open the registration page for that serial: scan the printed label, or add the serial number to
/apps/tasdeek/r/on your store. Register with the email from the order. - Check that the unit now shows Registered, that it is listed under Registrations, and that the confirmation email arrived.
With automatic registration on, step 4 happens by itself when you fulfill the order.
To try a claim too, follow the claims guide with the same serial number and email.
On a Shopify development store every plan feature is switched on, so you may see features there that your plan does not include.
