Every product item you sell gets its own serial number and a QR label. This guide covers creating the serial numbers, importing your own and printing the labels.
1. What a unit is
A unit is one physical item with its own serial number. Each unit has one of these statuses:
- Created: made in advance and not sold yet.
- Assigned: linked to an order when the order was fulfilled.
- Registered: the owner has registered it.
- Transferred: it has passed to a new owner.
- Void: cancelled, for example because its order was cancelled or refunded. A void unit cannot be registered and cannot get a claim.
All units are listed under Units. You can search by serial, order, email or SKU and filter by status.
New units count toward your plan's monthly allowance of new units. Settings, Plan shows this month's usage. A request that would go over the allowance is refused as a whole, and no units are created.
2. Create units
- Open Units and click Create units.
- Click Choose variant and pick the product variant these units belong to.
- Enter the Number of units, from 1 to 5,000.
- Choose a Serial scheme.
- Tick Generate auth codes if you want an 8-character code for each unit, to print under a scratch-off. Customers can enter it when they check that the product is genuine.
- Click Create units.
The new units form one batch with its own name, for example B20260927-7K3Q. From the result you can Download CSV, Print labels or View units.
Auth codes are shown only once, on that page. Download the CSV before you leave it: Tasdeek cannot show the codes again, and it does not print them on the labels.
When an order for a serialized product is fulfilled, Tasdeek assigns the oldest units of that variant first. Units created without a variant are not taken by orders; you can link one to an order from its page with Assign to an order.
3. Import your own serials
- Open Units and click Import CSV.
- Choose a CSV file, or paste the rows into Or paste CSV.
- If the rows have no variant, click Choose variant under Default variant to link them all to one.
- Click Import.
The columns are serial, then optionally authCode, variantId and sku, in that order, with or without a header row:
serial,authCode,variantId,sku
EB-000001,7K3QX9PA,44012345678,EBIKE-BLUSerial numbers are trimmed and changed to capital letters. Duplicates are skipped, and every skipped row is listed with the reason. One file can hold up to 5,000 rows and 2 MB. Imported units wait until an order for their variant is fulfilled.
4. Choose the labels to print
Open the Labels page in one of these ways:
- click Print labels after creating or importing units, to get that batch;
- in Units, select units or filter the list, then click Print labels;
- click Print label on a unit's page;
- click Labels at the top of Units.
Opened on its own, the Labels page shows the units with the status Created, the ones waiting to be shipped. Under Which units you can filter by Batch, Status or a search, then click Show labels. One download holds up to 504 labels; narrow the filter if you need more.
5. What the QR code opens
Choose it under QR code opens:
- Registration page, the default: the page on your store where the owner registers that serial,
/apps/tasdeek/r/followed by the serial number. The label says "Scan to register". Once the product is registered, the same page says so and links to the owner's products and to reporting a problem. - Product passport: the product passport page for that serial. The label says "Product passport". This needs the Growth plan or higher and a passport published under Passports. Below Growth, these labels open the registration page instead.
6. Label stock, PDF and PNG
Under Download, choose the Label stock:
- Avery 5160: US Letter, 30 labels per sheet, 2.625 x 1 in.
- Avery L7160: A4, 21 labels per sheet, 63.5 x 38.1 mm.
- Roll, 50 x 25 mm: one label per page.
- Roll, 2 x 1 in: one label per page.
- Custom grid: enter the page width and height, columns and rows, label width and height, top and left margins and the gaps between labels, all in millimetres. Tasdeek tells you if the grid does not fit the page.
Then download or print:
- Download PDF: all labels in the list, laid out for the chosen stock. Each label has the QR code, the serial number, the product and variant name, and the caption.
- Download PNG: one label as a 300 dpi image in the chosen label size, with the QR code, the serial number and the caption. Filter or select a single unit first.
- Print sheet: opens the labels as A4 sheets in the Avery L7160 layout and starts printing. Each sheet can also be saved with Download SVG.
Tick Mark a scratch-off area to add a dashed box where you stick the auth code scratch-off. Take the codes from the CSV you downloaded when you created the units.
Print PDFs at 100% (actual size), without fitting them to the page. Before you label a whole batch, scan one printed label with a phone to check that it opens your store.
Downloading or printing labels marks Print serial labels as done on the Home checklist.
